Saying Goodbye to Summer

As summer comes to an end, it can feel hard to switch gears as our schedules shift and the weather changes. In this month’s post, we share some ideas to help you ground in the new season and find some of the joy and peace that belong uniquely to the fall.

  • Plan your patterns

Make your schedule less daunting by creating a rhythm to center your life around. Practice balancing work and other parts of your life, to allow time for rest and reinvigoration. Having routines you can count on and prioritizing the things you enjoy ensures you aren’t consumed by work, or feeling dread at the coming season.

Think: morning meditation, coffee dates with friends, walks outside, and weekend activities to look forward to.

  • Fall cleaning

When your mind feels chaotic and disorganized, it can help to declutter your surroundings. This focuses your mind on the task at hand, and as your home becomes cleaner, your mind will start to mirror the organized space around you.

Set yourself up for success going into the next season by taking care of any stressful messes beforehand.

  • Find the fun

Vacation season may be over but autumn brings its own particular joys.  See the trees changing color, have friends over for campfires and s’mores, go to pumpkin patches, and maybe plan a Friendsgiving! Fall doesn’t mean the fun has to end.

  • Embrace change

Though the stress of increasing work demands and a new school year can accompany the start of September, autumn is an amazing season for comfort, with the promise of cozy blankets, hot drinks, chilly nights in, and the coming holiday seasons.

Lean into the coming season by burning your favorite comforting candles, baking seasonal treats, and enjoying the chilly weather.

So much of healthy coping and adaptation in life involves a balance of acceptance and change. We hope these ideas help you to find your balance this season.
